MDfx Within collaborated with Zac Monroe Architects on their design of this beautiful property in South London, Dulwich. We were introduced to the project right from the design phase to ensure all smart home solutions throughout the house would work together seamlessly. The property comprises of a large open plan kitchen and living area overlooking beautiful gardens, 4 en-suite bedrooms, a guest suite with its own living and kitchenette, cinema, music room, study, play room, office and garage.

The client wanted unified control of both interior and exterior lighting, as well as automated blinds, and seamless integration with HVAC and security systems. The solution needed to be robust, simple to use, and aesthetically complement the modern, clean interior of this high-end property.

The Client, having had a bad experience with his previous home’s automation system, came in with a very clear idea of the products he wanted to use and he was not ready to compromise. The brief was to integrate all of these products and have them work together seamlessly and easily. The problem was that many of them would not typically tie together without a control system.

We decided to push as much as we possibly could onto the Lutron control system, in order to use it as the primary interface, and only use a Control4 processor to handle the integration with audio.

We used Lutron as the control system as this made it easy to guide the client through his options, keep it simple to control whilst producing lighting scenes that were both practical and made the house look stunning. The client chose a Blusound audio system and so we installed a small Control4 processor that would allow us simple audio control through the Lutron keypads. The client was very specific about the lighting fixtures they wanted to use and extensive testing had to be carried out to ensure the end result was of the highest quality.

The Lutron System is integrated into a small control4 processor, to allow control of the audio system through the SeeTouch keypads – with a simple favourite button, room off and volume control. Having this in place has extended the whole home shut down to not only include the lighting and shades, but the audio too. Our fire and intruder alarm systems were simply integrated to operate the lighting in the event of an alarm. This would guide people out of a property whilst drawing more attention to it.
